Appraisal forms are documents which analyze an individual’s opinion about en event, product, business and institution. They are similar to assessment forms in a way. The person provides his or her appraisal of a certain thing and thus, through the medium of opinions and assessments, the thing can be maintained, changed or improved. There are many kinds of appraisal forms and depending on their nature, their uses will vary. Certain general uses of appraisal forms are as follows:

  1. Appraisal forms give voice to the collective opinion. Performance appraisal forms are especially crucial in this context. Only through audience feedback will a performer judge his or her performance and figure out ways of improvement or change.
  2. Appraisal forms are part of a procedure of improvement and change. They provide a semblance of order and system to an otherwise chaotic process. Appraisal forms can also provide the audience with something to express his feelings through. This mutual interaction is very important.
  3. Appraisal forms are also very democratic. It takes the opinions of the audience or the consumer who has paid money, and invested time and effort, to buy the product, or view a performance.   4. Appraisal forms can also have documental value. They can be stored for further referential purposes. An old appraisal form can be used to track the developments the product has made over time. They can be used to keep track of the progress of a performer. Thus, in a sense, they have archival value as well.
